This is one of the first take-offs in the area with an old hang-gliding ramp as an adornment of Chapala free-flying history. You can get there all the way with a car if you drive around the ridge through Jocotepec and up on the backside of the mountain towards Potrelillos.
A more or less decent dirt road takes you to the take-off where there’s plenty of room to lay out the wings, but it’s not that generous of running space so it’s important to choose a good moment when the wind is coming up the face.
It’s normally quite easy to fly left and follow the ridge towards Chapala, but take care if the wind is East with the leeside ridges and always with the airspace of Guadalajara airport, if you get that far.
The main landing is next to the boardwalk (malecon) in El Chante. Be prepared for a strong wind gradient since the little bay is protected by trees and houses. There are plenty of optional landings in the area but they are disappearing by the minute to make room for more rooms! The best landing is at our mountaincenter at the ranch below Spa Monte Coxala, where you can also enjoy a hot-spring bath and massage.
